I’d wondered if it would be able to be as slick and edgy as its promos were making it seem, because it’s a lot harder to be cool than, say, campy, which is what you get when you try a little too hard to be cool. It is that, and more.
What we get is a little bit of a Law & Order style whodunnit, and a little bit Dexter. It’s dark, well-acted, extremely well-edited, gorgeous to look at, with a great soundtrack that enhances without overpowering. There’s blood, of course — it’s a crime procedural AND a vampire drama — but it’s well-placed.
