Yi San

the esp open with a grand celebration where the King Yeong-Jo and company were being entertained by the performers . suddenly there was an attack ..and soon the entire palace was in choas ..and King Yeong Jo while escaping under the protection of his guards ... found himself face to face with the leader of the revolt ..which was his own son Prince Sado ..

ANd at this point ...... the king awake ...from his nitemare it was only a dream .yet the son that he dreamt is going to overthrow him ..is now sealed in a chest box .....

a group of enunchs were trying to open up a hole in the chest ..i think they were just trying to give the Prince some water ....hmm .they seem pretty loyal to him ..they managed to cut a hole ...and speak to him .....anyway ..soon the guards come .. their attempts were stopped ..i think the Prince was like begging ...inside the box .sigh. i dun know how many days he was in there ..but he was really very weak ..

young Seong Song-Yeon seem to have a gift for drawing .i dun know if her parents are still alive .anyway .seem she was taken into the palance as a palace maid ...

one night ..she was roaming the palace grounds with one of the little palace maids ...and she went off alone and happen to run into this young prince Yi San ..who was going someplace .too ....he was going to see his father held captive in the box .. The two run into the young Park Dae-Su

so the three met .and ...become comrades ...young YI San finally went to see his father ..[ ....hmm ..strange the place was not guarded ] anyway .it was sad .. ....he was weeping calling his father ......Prince Sado speak to him .through the hole ...and hold his hands out to held his son hands......


just then .King Yeong-Jo come ...and young Yi san had to run ...with Song-Yeon [ Dae Su who had previously left returned to help them escape ..and the three children sealed their friendship with a pact to keep tonite a secret ....] .

however .....the next day i think King Yeong Jo wanted to find out who was the one who left the food right outside the chest

ah and young yi San went to see his grandfather ..i think he was asking him to forgive the Prince Sado ..yet his grandfather never soften ..

so soon ..Dae Su was found out ...they want him to identify who was the palace maid ..but he did not reveal .it ..All through this .these two still did not know the young friend they helped was the Prince Yi San ..till ....at the last scene when Song Yeon saw him....in his prince attire ...

19th day of the month May, year 1762, during his 38th year of reign, Joseon's 21st King Yeongjo (Lee Sun-Jae) has a dream that his son, the Crown Prince Sado (Lee Chang-Hun) leads a palace masacre with intention to have him killed, and Yeongjo awakes from this nightmare in cold sweat, but realizes Crown Prince Sado is already locked up in the rice chest in the palace plaza, and Crown Prince Sado who has been locked up for 6 days is near death. A eunuch loyal to the crown prince brings a group of eunuchs before the rice chest on this dark night and saws open a small opening and they confirm the crown prince is still alive thought weak. Crown Prince Sado mutters there's something he must give to his father the King, however palace guards arrive and though the eunuch pleads to the head of the guard to allow him to feed the crown prince some water, the head of guards refuses and is about to slash the eunuchs. The eunuch asks if the guard is fearful that he will reveal the conspiracy behind the attempt to murder the crown prince, and the guard leader is taken back. The eunuch asks who is trying to kill the innocent Crown Prince, but the guards begin their attack and the group of eunuchs are slaughtered.

Meanwhile, despite the incident with his son, King Yeongjo has achieved a peaceful era for Joseon first time in 200 years of unrest, but a quiet strife has emerged from within the palace. A political faction is determined to dethrone the crown prince in order to promote one of their own, and though the opposing faction tries to stop them, the Crown Prince Sado becomes a scapegoat and is tied up for his supposed reckless behavior, and the prince is left to die in a rice chest. Next morning, after witnessing the death of his faithfuls, crown prince continues to wait for his death in pain and suffering, while a new fate begins for the young Seong Song-Yeon (actress Lee Ha-Na, later by Han Ji-Min). Upon her father's death, Song-Yeon carries her infant brother on her back and arrives in the capital where her father's friend brings her to a merchant who arrranges for her to a palace maid, while her little brother is to be adopted by a prominent family in town to be raised as their own. Before saying farewell to the infant, Song-Yeon who is gifted in drawing like her father who used to serve as a palace artist, paints pictures of her parents for her brother, and another one of him for herself to keep so she can look at it day and night and not forget him until she is able to visit him. Inside the palace, prince Yi San (Park Ji-Bin, later King Jeongjo by Lee Seo-Jin) finds out his father's eunuchs were killed in their attempt to visit the crown prince, and Yi San worries over his father who has not had a drop of water in 6 days, and Yi San determines he must visit his father in person, but the palace lady reminds him it would be against the order by the King.

Meanwhile, in the eunuch training quarter, the newly arrived castrated boys receive their training, but the supervisors discover the boy Park Dae-Su (Kwon Oh-Min, later Lee Jong-Su) still has his genital intact and his uncle who is a eunuch explains Dae-Su had a deformed genital as a child so he assumed Dae-Su was impotent, but the eunuch supervisor orders Dae-Su to be castrated immediately. Dae-Su who is hiding from the elders sits under a tree as he rubs himself and just then the young palace maids pass by, among them Song-Yeon, and the girls laugh as they witness Dae-Su with his pants off under the tree. Dae-Su flees in a panic but Song-Yeon goes to him later and gives him his hat on order by her supervisor, and Dae-Su asks Song-Yeon if she saw 'it' and Song-Yeon doesn't answer but instead tells him how to treat his genital discomfort. Dae-Su's uncle catches him and scolds him for running around the palace, but Dae-Su utters he doesn't want to be castrated and he doesn't want to be a eunuch anymore.

At nighttime, Yi San tries to sneak to the courtyard where his father is locked up, just as Song-Yeon goes on an errand to fetch food from the kitchen, on order given to her by the older maids. Dae-Su is also wandering around as he attempts escape from the palace. The two boys and Song-Yeon meet and Yi San commands for them to kneel and announces himself as a special eunuch of the young prince and asks them to help him. Dae-Su is suspicious but Song-Yeon agrees to help Yi San at once, but she wants Yi San to help her find the kitchen and food as well. Thus they begin their trip wandering around the palace, and first they find some food and each packs a sac but soon they run into some guards and the trio hide but when Song-Yeon needs a hand to lift her up from the edge of the stairs, she chooses Yi San's hand over Dae-Su's and Dae-Su is flusterred. Song-Yeon thanks Dae-Su as he goes his separate way and she exchanges her name with him. Yi San tells Dae-Su if he's trying to escape the palace he should be careful and Dae-Su denies he's escaping even though it's true.

Strangely on this night the rice chest with crown prince inside is not guarded by anyone and Yi San arrives and seeing his father locked up so the young boy weeps saying it cannot be so. Crown Prince Sado puts out his hand for Yi San and Yi San begs him to eat something he brought but Sado refuses. Meanwhile, Queen Jeong-Sun, after exchanging a suspicious look with the head of guards, arrives outside King Yeongjo's chamber and kneels outside pleading for the king to visit the locked up crown prince since it's already been 6 days, and the queen goes on to say though Sado was not born from her womb she considers him as his own and pleads as she tears for the king to visit the crown prince. The king does, and Dae-Su witnesses the king going toward the palace, and Daesu rushes back to the courtyard where Yi San continues to weep. Crown Prince Sado instructs Yi San to go and find the drawing he painted and to give it to grandpa, and that grandpa would come see him upon seeing the drawing. Sado also asks Yi San to promise him he would grow up and afterwards Sado urges Yi San to leave at once. Yi San lingers but Daesu and Song-Yeon arrive and urge Yi San to flee at once for the king is on his way here. King Yeongjo arrives and discovers rice cake and fruit left by the chest, and the palace guards begin chasing the offenders. The three youngsters escape from danger and Song-Yeon refers to themselves as commarades, and Yi San agrees they are and they are to keep what happened this night a secret forever or else it will bring danger to all of them. The three cross their fingers with each other as a token of their promise.

Next day, King Yeongjo tells his court ministers if one of them visited the crown prince they should confess but no one does, and Yeongjo orders for immediate investigation and orders no one from the palace is to leave their quarter without the king's approval. Sado's wife, crown princess Hye-Kyeong (later Hong-ssi/ actress Kyeon Miri) gets a visit by her father minister Hong who urges her to remain quiet since it is certain that someone with a motive purposedly cleared the courtyard in order to set up a trap for sado faithfuls, and in order for the king to witness another occurence in disobedience of his rules, and the crown princess must remain calm for the protection of her son. Kept in his room, Yi San wonders how he can make it to the eastern palace in order to retrieve his father's drawing, while the king shows his frustration at his councils and ministers for their ineptitude. Yi San arrives to see the king and pleads his grandpa to allow him to visit the art chamber. King Yeongjo asks why and Yi San says he will not reveal it until later, but Yeongjo refuses and tells Yi San to leave since he's on his way outside the palace. At this, Yi San begins to tear up wondering how the grandpa could leave the palace while his father is dying in the courtyard, and Yi San says his father told him not to resent grandpa, but how can grandpa be so cold-hearted, and Yeongjo orders Yi San to leave the palace for a while.

The investigation continues inside the palace, and the guards begin examining the young palace maids and young eunuch's shoes to see if any of them still has mud stuck on the sole. They discover mud on Dae-Su's boots and Dae-Su who is about to be castrated by his uncle is saved from the cruelty just in time as the guards come in and drag him away. Dae-Su at first thinks the guards are simply here to return his boots, but he soon realizes they want him to point which of the palace girls was his complice, and Dae-Su will not confess, thus he receives a heavy beating. Meanwhile, Song-Yeon feels bad about what happened to Dae-Su, but she is soon pestered by the older kitchen maids who blame Song-Yeon for causing trouble for them as well. Yi San passes by and orders the older maids to let go of Song-Yeon, and Song-Yeon upon seeing Yi San realizes he is not a eunuch boy 'Mudeok' as he said he was previously, and he is infact the young prince.

Prince Yi San saves Seong Song-Yeon from the older maids, and Prince Yi San orders the older maids to be punished. Yi San apologizes to Song-Yeon for concealing the truth and Song-Yeon kneels before him and begs for forgiveness for not knowing his identity. Yi San helps her stand and says what she did was only to help him, and Yi San says he is here because he saw what happened to Dae-Su and he was worried. Yi San finds out Dae-Su is taken to the police bureau for punishment, and he is likely to die, so Yi San goes to meet his mother, Crown Princess Hye-Kyeong, and tells her he was the one who went to the courtyard last night, and she must save his friend Dae-Su for he did no wrong. Yi San's mother is alarmed by this and tells him she will consider it as she didn't hear it, and urges him not to be so easily wavered or he will see her die, but Yi San asks her if that is why she is doing nothing about his dad dying, and if all she cares is for her son to inherit the power then all is fair. Crown Princess Hyekyeong orders Yi San to be taken out, and she weeps alone. Meanwhile, Dae-Su is getting dragged to the punishment chamber, and Dae-Su's uncle rushes to the crying Dae-Su and promises he will try to save him. Yi San's servants are packing up his belongings in order for him and Crown Princess Hyekyeong, to move outside the palace to stay with Minister Hong for a while, but as the things are packed and loaded onto the carriage, Yi San suddenly remembers his father's request and discovers his father's drawing inside the red chest, instead of the drawing room where he thought it would be.

Yi San rushes to Song-Yeon and tells him now there's a way to save his father as well as Daesu. Song-Yeon is delighted by this and Yi San who's never been outside the palace asks her to help him by drawing a map to wunjong street outside the palace, where the King is, so he can deliver the drawing. Song-Yeon agrees but realizes even with a map the young prince would have a hard time getting there, since he is unfamiliar with the landmarks such a the poultry shop and the store, thus Song-Yeon offers to help. However Yi San rejects the offer for fear of getting Song-Yeon into more trouble, and Song-Yeon reminds him they are comrades thus she's helping a fellow commarade and Yi San finally agrees as he cups her hands with his. Minister Hong finds out about Yi San being by the chest in the courtyard previously and he promises Crown Princess Hyekyeong he will take care of the matter. The two are alerted about the news of the young prince is missing but Yi San returns and watches as the workers carefully load up the wagons, including the chest where Song-Yeon is hiding in. During the journey to the Hong's outside the palace, Yi San asks the carriage to be halted and asks the servants to clear so he can mind his personal business on the urinal with privacy, but Minister Hong soon discovers Yi San has escaped, and Yi San is already wandering around the town as he meets up with Song-Yeon. As the two run through the streets, a group of soldiers is dispatched from the police bureau to search for the missing prince. Meanwhile, inside the police bureau the clever police general gives Dae-Su some rice crackers and tells the boy he is a friend of his uncle's and he's here to help him get out. Dae-Su falls for it and confesses the boy Mudeok asked him to help him to the plaza. The officer then shows Dae-Su a drawing of prince Yi San and Dae-Su agrees the boy is the Mudeok boy he's talking about. Dae-Su asks the officer to save Mudeok too, and the officer reports the finding to Minister Hong, who instructs the officers to slip Dae-Su out to someone they can trust.

Out by the river where the boys are bathing and playing, Yi San and Song-Yeon arrive and Song-Yeon urges him to steal one of the boy's clothes by the water so he can change into something unsuspecting. Thus, Yi San and Song-Yeon escape and arrive in a dirty shed, where Yi San is startled by the sight of a mouse, but when Song-Yeon apologizes for not being able to find a better place, Yi San says it's alright and the two begin to change, she on one side and he on the other, but Yi San smells the foul odor on the clothes and turns around to tell Song-Yeon perhaps he really couldn't change into these clothes, but Song-Yeon with her outter top off is startled by him looking at her and gasps, while Yi San apologizes but realizes Song-Yeon is hurt from a fall earlier. Yi San rushes to help her bandage her bleeding wound on her arm, and at first Yi San scolds her for not saying anything about the bleeding earlier, but he soon realizes it's his fault and apologizes to her. After dressing her wound, he continues to help her change her clothes and takes his royal waist-tie to keep her bandage tight. Yi San then asks Song-Yeon to call him by his name 'San' and Song-Yeon complies and Yi San comments how nice it is that someone other than his mother or father calls him by his name. Afterwards, Yi San and Song-Yeon, newly changed in their commoner attire continue their trip, and they soon jump aboard a wagon headed toward wungong street, outside the fort, but the wagon happens to belong to a group of thugs who smuggle rations to brew alchohol, and as they see the fort guards carefully looking at every traveler's belongings, they turn the wagon around to flee, killing a suspecting guard in the process. The thugs shove the body of the guard quietly into the wagon, where Yi San and Song-Yeon are hiding, and the wagon arrives in a quiet house somewhere in the capital. Yi San and Song-Yeon try to escape but Yi San drops his drawing and in the process gets caught by the thugs, while Song-Yeon successfully escapes. Song-Yeon who learned about the thugs acticitives from Yi San, goes to the police bureau and reports about the thugs's hideout and their crime. Meanwhile, Yi San is locked up and he cries out he is the grandprince of the King Majesty, but the thugs scoff him and go about their business. While in the storage, Yi San encounters Dae-Su who was brought there by a the police officer working for Hong and Dae-Su, upon seeing Yi San, begins to hit him for causing all his troubles.

King Yeongjo presides a public hearing for common citizens to report their plight and when the peasant reports about the corruption that has led to shortage of food and ration for them, King Yeongjo asks his ministers right there and then which of them ate off more than their share, and orders an investigation. Yeongjo is then offered a bowl of water on this warm afternoon, but Yeongjo who is perhaps reminded of his son dying in the courtyard declines the drink. And back inside the palace courtyard, as the temperature rises Crown Prince Sado appears to have lost consciousness inside the chest. Outside the palace, Hong's officer arrives at the thugs hideout and scolds the men for getting caught, but when he hears that the boy claims to be the king's grandson, he becomes alarmed. Just as the thugs are about to kill Dae-su and Yi San, a group of police officers arrive in search of the young prince and to capture the thugs. Amidst the chaos, Dae-Su and Yi San reunite with Song-Yeon and the three boys run off together again. When Dae-Su learns about Yi San's identity from Song-Yeon, Dae-Su begins to shake as he pleads forgiveness for hitting him earlier, but Yi San helps him up and says they are comrades. They finally arrive by the wungong street where the Kings' hearing was held, but the event finished early due to the warm weather, and the king has left to return to the palace.

Yi San falls in dismay, but since the king has stopped to visit with the people, Yi San catches up to the king and his entourage, and Yi San bangs on the drum as he calls out for the king to save his innocent father. The king is startled by San's attire and the young prince kneels before the king and reveals he escaped here and he is willing to die here without complaint but pleads for the king to look at his father's drawing once, since his father said the king would undo his fury upon looking at the picture. The king asks when he met with his father, and Yi San reveals he went to the plaze last night and everyone is surprised. Yi San continues to beg the king to look at the drawing, but King Yeongjo tells Yi San to shut up and orders his men to drag the prince away.

Some happy news for our wonderful soompiers.. I have decided to coordinate this project with the fabulous MrsKorea and we will do this project as an INDEPENDENT PROJECT. Of course, my fellow WITH S2 members will help us out if needed, but this project is NOT a WITH S2 project.

It's an independent project with MrsKorea subbing on her own and me helping her out. Our progress will be slower (since MrsKorea is subbing Legend for WITH S2 also)- but we will do the best we can. The subs might not be as flawless.. but MrsKorea is one of the best translator I've known.. so we're in great shape.
